Is VAT transferred on online purchases and invoices?
My company is located in Belgium
If your company -like Chapps- is confirmed in Belgium, 21% VAT will always be charged.
My company is located in another EU member state
If your company is based in an EU member state other than Belgium, then VAT will be reverse-charged (i.e. no VAT will be charged on our invoice) if these conditions are met:
- You are a company whose registered office is not in Belgium but in another EU member state
- You have a local VAT number that allows intra-community supply of services*.
As a company, you are responsible for the correct processing of invoices and VAT in your accounts. For more information, contact your accountant or bookkeeper.
If you do not meet these conditions, VAT will be charged on the invoice:
- 21% VAT for Belgian customers
- The VAT rate of your country (e.g.: 19% as a German customer, 15% as a customer in Luxembourg...etc.).
*For each transaction, the VIES database of the European Union is consulted to check in real time whether your VAT number is authorized for reverse charge. In some cases, your VAT number may not be validated for intra-community purchases. In that case, contact your local VAT administration.
My company is located outside the European Union
If your company is located outside the European Union (such as Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada but also Martinique for example), then no VAT will be charged on invoices or online purchases.
